CENTRAL NEUROLOGY

Born in The Netherlands Joram Roukes used a small stipend from the National Arts Foundation to establish an artist residency in Brooklyn, and after also spending time at a residency in Los Angeles he is back living in Groningen, The Netherlands. Roukes’ work juxtaposes imagery to create dark narratives on topics ranging from popular culture and global affairs to personal experience. Propelled to prominence when his work quickly gained attention in galleries across the world, he was in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2017 “getting [his] Dutch skin blasted in the Florida sun” while creating this Central Ave composition at Central Neurology for the city’s annual Shine Festival. @joramroukes @shineonstpete
